Delivery receipts for distribution of quit rents, [ca. 1820-1824]

This series consists of receipts made out to various county treasurers and employees of New York State engaged in the distribution of laws pertaining to the collection of quit rents. The Comptroller was a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Land Office, and responsible for the sale of all lands for payment of delinquent state taxes.

By a law of 1894, a person, body, or board in a locality was authorized to assess lands for local improvements and file a written notice with the comptroller.
